Languages Canada represents accredited public and private, English and French language education programs across the country, working with government and partners to strengthen Canada’s position as a leading destination for international students.

  • Organized the Languages Canada Annual Conference, bringing together members, partners and international education stakeholders each year to connect, share, learn, and collaborate;

  • Negotiated agreements with foreign governments and institutions to establish scholarship programs and other language education initiatives for the benefit of members.

Membership Categories

Languages Canada offers different membership categories to reflect the diversity of programs across the sector.

Full Member

Eligibility criteria:

  • Deliver primarily English and/or French language education programs
  • Have operated as a provider of English and/or French language education for at least three years (1 year for Novice Membership).

Full members must:

  • Adhere at all times to the By-laws, Code of Conduct, Membership Policies, and Quality Assurance Standard of LC;
  • Maintain accreditation under the LC Accreditation Scheme for all locations and all ESL and/or FSL programs;
  • Pay annual membership fees.

Full members have voting rights.

Listed Member

Listed members are additional locations or language programs which are owned or operated or share common branding with the Full Member applicant.

Listed members do not have voting rights.

Affiliated Public Member

The Affiliated Public Membership is designed for public institutions offering short-term language programs. This category provides a pathway for public institutions to engage with Languages Canada and the broader sector, while maintaining clear distinctions from accredited Full Members.

An Affiliated Public Member is a public institution governed by provincial regulations and student protection frameworks that offers short-term programs which include an English or French language component, such as:

  • Summer or leadership camps;
  • Language + orientation programs;
  • Short preparatory programs for academic pathways.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Program duration is less than 4 weeks OR under 15 hours/week;
  • Program is not currently accredited by Languages Canada;
  • Institution is not already a Languages Canada member.

Affiliated public members must:

  • Comply with a dedicated Conditions of Membership policy and attestation requirement;
  • Participate in surveys and sector engagement activities;
  • Pay annual membership fees;
  • Use a clearly differentiated Languages Canada logo.

Affiliated Public Members do not require accreditation, are not part of the Languages Canada Quality Assurance Framework, and do not have voting rights.


How to Join Languages Canada

Start your journey to becoming a Languages Canada member by following the steps below.

Join as a Full Member

Joining Languages Canada as a Full Member involves two steps.

1. Apply for membership
Gather the supporting documents required to complete the membership application form:
  • Three (3) references from reputable institutions or organizations, including at least one (1) from an existing LC member;
  • Private sector only: recent Criminal Record Checks for all Governors named in the application. All Governors must also consent to credit checks conducted by an independent body;
  • Private sector only: a bank reference and an appropriate credit report OR a CA's statement of solvency based on audited financial statements.

Once you have gathered the necessary documents, complete the application form, which includes the payment of a non-refundable CAD $500 application fee.

Note: The membership application form must be completed in the name of a Governor.

2. Apply to be accredited under the Languages Canada Accreditation Scheme

The Accreditation Scheme operates at arm’s length, is transparent, confidential and maintains the integrity and rigour of the Languages Canada Standard and process. Each level of review is done by different members of a team of highly qualified professionals from Orion Assessment Services, the independent body designated by Languages Canada to administer the accreditation process.

Upon approval of your membership application, Languages Canada will advise Orion Assessment Services of your eligibility to proceed with the accreditation process.

Join as an Affiliated Public Member

To join Languages Canada as an Affiliated Public Member (APM), complete the application form, which includes the payment of a non-refundable CAD $500 application fee.

Affiliated Public Members are not accredited but must comply with a dedicated Conditions of Membership policy and attestation requirement.
